Marg was born on May 2, 1933 and was raised in Cabbagetown, Toronto by her pre-deceased parents Bill and Lena Hyland. Marg will reunite with her husband of over 50 years, Vincent Reilly who passed away in 2007.
Marg leaves behind six children, Kevin and wife Barb, Bill and fiancée Diane, Noreen and partner Randy, Brenda and husband Dave, Jim and wife Janja and Pat and wife Sumsum. She leaves behind grandchildren Ashley, Aaron, Steven, Lauren, Adam, Connor, Martin and Hugh.
Anyone who knew Marg witnessed a kind, gentle and generous spirit. Although not born in Ireland, Marg was raised by the huge Irish community that once lived in Cabbagetown.
She met Vincent, an immigrant from Ireland in the mid 1950's and married shortly thereafter.
Marg and Vince worked together raising six children. They both shared a very strong faith in the Church, were active in the school and related organizations, worked diligently in areas of Social Justice and Union organizing. Marg and Vince were lifetime members of the New Democratic Party. Marg was the long-time president of the York East NDP Riding Association and she ran as a candidate for East York Council twice.
Marg volunteered at several local seniors' homes helping do their income taxes.
Marg had been ill for the last decade which had left her housebound. Despite these setbacks, she was always in good humour with a happy demeanour. She will be sadly missed by all who had the good luck to know her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel, 467 Sherbourne St. (South of Wellesley Street). The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 520 Sherbourne Street. Interment to follow at Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery (Just East of Mt. Pleasant, North of Eglinton Ave).
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Doctors Without Borders.
The family would like to say a big thank you for the wonderful care Marg received over the years through the hard working home care team, and the health care professionals at the Palliative Care unit of the East General Hospital.
