Peacefully on Monday October 10, 2011, in the extraordinary care of Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, with her family by her side. June will be sadly missed by her husband of 64 years, Malcolm (Mac) Sabiston; children Judy Morgan, Mardy Hollingsworth and John Sabiston; daughter-in-law Vida Stripinis; and grandchildren Julia, David and Jenna Morgan; Amy and Kerry Hollingsworth; and Jeffrey, Trevor and Milda Sabiston.
Born on June 1, 1925 in Toronto, June graduated from Lawrence Park Collegiate and University of Toronto Victoria College (Household Economics). June contributed tirelessly and generously to the community both in Don Mills, where she and Mac were original settlers, and at their beloved cottage at Washago Bay on Lake Scugog. Her dedication and leadership led to her working with eighteen community organizations in a variety of roles across five decades. These included the North York University Women’s Club where she was an active member from 1956 to 2008; the Board of Governors for Seneca College (1974-1980), where she became Chairman; and the Ontario Association of Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology where she became President and represented them on the Council of Regents of Ontario.
But her favourite roles were wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Always active and interested, ready to learn and experience new things, June will be fondly remembered by her family and scores of friends and associates.
