Mr. Leslie Edmund White

WHITE, Leslie Edmund (December 7th, 1922 – September 1st, 2013) - Leslie was born in Pembroke, Bermuda where he grew up with his siblings Morris, Vincent and Lillian. He came to Canada in 1942 to volunteer for the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War Two where he served as a Pilot Officer on Pacific patrol, based out of the Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia. With the conclusion of the war, Leslie returned to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to rejoin the love of his life Harriet Christine White (March 2nd, 1924 – April 20th, 1998) where they were married on June 15th, 1946. Together, Leslie and Harriet created a loving family with the birth of their three children, Christine, Eleanor and Gordon. Christine is married to Glen Elie, Eleanor was married to Kevin Haxell, and Gordon is married to Lynne White. Leslie started his career as an investment dealer with Osler, Hammond and Nanton in Winnipeg. Over the years Leslie’s hard work, talent and dedication were recognized with increased responsibility; he was promoted to partner and Senior Vice President within the firm Midland Doherty where he finished his career. This work brought the family across the country from Winnipeg, to Oakville, Montreal and Toronto. Leslie was predeceased by his father Leyland White, and mother Eleanor, siblings Morris White, Vincent White and Lillian Matvey. He filled his years with; summers at the cottage he loved in Muskoka, trips back to Bermuda, sailing, golfing, playing Canasta with family, and above all doting on his children and grandchildren; Russell, Thomas, Caroline, Kathleen, William, Matthew. Leslie also enjoyed spending time with his friends, colleagues and extended family including; siblings and in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; in Canada, Bermuda and the United States. He will be fondly remembered by everyone for being active, quick witted and young at heart. Leslie was a devoted husband, a caring father, a shining example to his grandchildren and above all a gentleman. We are fortunate to have had him in our lives for many years. Leslie will be greatly missed.

Friends may call at the TRULL “NORTH TORONTO” FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 2704 Yonge St. (5 blocks south of Lawrence Ave) on Sunday September 8th, 2013 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm, and 6:00pm until 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at EGLINTON-ST. GEORGE’S UNITED CHURCH (35 Lytton Blvd.) on Monday September 9th, 2013 at 11:00 am. Burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery to follow.
