SEPTEMBER 28, 1923 – APRIL 08TH, 2022
Our dear father and grandfather, Kenneth William Short peacefully entered his promised eternal life on Friday, April 8th, 2022, in his 99th year. Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife, Thelma, of 65 years. Loving father to Steve (Arwen), Janet (Grant), John (Kim) and the late Jim (Vicky).
Cherished grandfather to Danielle, Nicholas, Stephen, Elise, Heather, Aaron, Quinton, Megan, and Caitlyn. Dearest brother of Barbara Rossiter and the late Robert (Betty), and Reginald (Betty). Ken will be fondly remembered by many relatives, nieces and nephews, and was a great friend to many who knew him.
Ken was born and raised in Bedford, Nova Scotia. In 1942 he joined the R.C.A.F and was a member of the North Atlantic Squadron, serving briefly in Iceland. Following the war, he completed his education at Dalhousie University and Nova Scotia Technical College (Civil Engineering 1954). Ken began his career in Ontario for Imperial Oil Ltd in various capacities for 33 years before retiring.
Moving to Ontario lead him to meet the love of his life Thelma. Together they began a journey filled with love, family, travel and many fond memories. What really defined Ken was the devotion to his family. His time spent with his grandchildren was always full of fun, laughter and playfulness. He loved to celebrate birthdays with family around and being known as ‘Buzzy Bear’ to his grandchildren. Ken truly enjoyed summers at the family cottage and sharing quiet moments on the dock or a canoe ride with Thelma. He also maintained his love for the East Coast and always looked forward to another trip with Thelma travelling through Nova Scotia, enjoying scallops and seafood, and visiting family. He also shared his enthusiasm for music as a singer in the church choir as well as listening to jazz and big band recordings.
Ken was a resident of K1West at the Veterans Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital for the past 2 years. We are grateful for the care and compassion he was shown from all the staff.
