Born November 15, 1936, to Olive and Hervey Painter, June lived her young life on a farm near Port Perry. She learned responsibly early, often looking after her younger siblings, Faye, Stan, Rodney, Linda and Sharon while her family worked the farm.
She attended Port Perry high school then moved to the big city – graduating from the School Of Nursing at Toronto Western Hospital in 1958. She quickly advanced to become the head Operating Nurse there.
Then, after a country-mouse-meets-city-mouse, whirlwind, square-dancing romance, June married the love of her life, Ron, on June 3, 1961. Together they had two children, Lisa and Dean. And during that time, June also welcomed her youngest brother, Kevin.
In 1978, she graduated from the Upgrading For Graduate Nurses Program at George Brown College and began working at Nisbit Lodge Retirement Home. When she and Ron moved to Sudbury, she continued to practice nursing at Sudbury General Hospital.
At that time, she also became a proud member of the IODE – a national women’s charitable organization.
June was the family historian who researched and kept meticulous records of the Painters, the Masters, the Hores, and the Ogles, dating back to the 1700s.
She was a beautiful person. Inside and out. She was remarkably intelligent and had a quick wit. She was a world traveller, a voracious reader, a creative baker, a Scrabble champion and a card shark. And while June had many interests, her real passion was spending time with her friends and family. Especially during the summer months at her beloved cottage on Lake Joe.
June was a thoughtful big sister, a devoted wife, a loving mother, an attentive aunt, and the world’s best Nanna. She was kind, encouraging, and humble. A compassionate and attentive listener, she was interested in people and their stories and always found a way to connect. To know her was to love her. June was a force. And incredibly strong. And that strength helped her deal with her health challenges at the end. She will be remembered and missed by the many lives she touched.
June was predeceased by her sister, Linda and survived by her loving husband, Ron, daughter, Lisa (Richard), son, Dean, daughter-in-law, Susan, granddaughters, Shanna, Holly, Natalie, Elizabeth and grandson, Nicholas.
