Died suddenly yet peacefully in his room at the Basilian Retirement Home, Anglin House on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. He was born in Welland, Ontario, on April 28, 1925, the son of Edward Stortz and Agatha Goetz. He was professed in the Congregation of St. Basil in 1945. After studies at the University of St. Michael’s College, he was ordained a priest in the Congregation in 1953. After his ordination he had varied careers; teaching, coaching and as athletic director at schools in Saskatoon, at Michael Power High School in Toronto, in Sudbury and at Assumption College School in Windsor. He was very much involved with the Knights of Columbus and the Order of Alhambra in all four of these cities. He is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his brother Gerard and his sister Mary Lou Savio as well as nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Thursday May 30 from 6:30 p.m. with a Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Cardinal Flahiff Basilian Centre, 95 St. Joseph Street, Toronto. Visitation will also be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 from 9 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the same chapel. Burial will be at the Basilian plot at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Thornhill, ON. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Basilian Fathers Retirement Fund, 95 St. Joseph Street, Toronto, ON M5S 2R9.
