Ivan was born in Kingston, Jamaica on June 27, 1945.
He is the son of Cyril Hardie and Viola Senior (Both deceased).
Brother of Rosemarie, Maria and (Adele deceased).
After graduating from school, he joined the Jamaica Constabulary Force. He then served as a police constable in various locations on the Island.
In 1971 Ivan emigrated to Canada, where he got married.
Over the years, Ivan worked at Bell Canada, and at various other establishments until he retired.
Ivan loved living in the City of Toronto especially within the downtown core, where he knew almost everyone in the area where he lived. His favorite stomping ground was Kensington Market where he would shop, eat, and socialize with friends. We jokingly referred to him as the “Unofficial Mayor” of the area and later, as the “Mayor” of Fudger House Long Term Care Home.
He was a voracious reader who kept up with current events; an avid music fan of Jazz and Reggae, especially his favorite artists, Bob Marley and Mutabaruka.
Ivan was no saint, he led a very hedonistic lifestyle. He moved frequently, never settling in one place too long. In his later years, he turned his life around and volunteered with church groups that catered to the poor and homeless until he suffered a stroke in 2017 and moved into Fudger House.
He is survived by, sons Robert, Michael, and Adrian. Daughter, Andrea (deceased).
