Predeceased by her loving husband Albert. Devoted mother to Lynne (John); Lee (Sharon). Proud grandmother to Ashley(Jeremiah) and Kristin(Andre). Adoring great-grandma to Lyric, Lennox and Harlyn.
Predeceased by her mother Amelia (Millie); her father William(Bill); her sister Amelia(Millie)(Bob); her brother Dennis(Alex).
Sadley missed by her nieces Gail(Peter); Laura(Don); Julie(Duncan); and nephew Colin(Birgitta) and their children.
Irene(Rene) spent her happy childhood in London, England, surrounded by her family, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She married Albert Thorogood, her husband of over 60 years, in London, England in 1948 and emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1957 making the trans-Atlantic crossing on the HMS Homeric with her children to join her husband.
In addition to devoting herself to the raising of her children, her training as a shorthand typist provided her employment at the Rosedale Golf and Country Club as confidential secretary to the General Manager where she worked until retirement,
Throughout her life her creative talents were given full range in her many interests. She was an ardent gardener, an excellent cook and pet lover. Her hobbies included miniature doll houses, decoupage, filmmaking, poetry, sewing and knitting. She became a professional cake decorator specializing in wedding cakes and intricate gum paste flower modelling for which she won awards.
Guest visitations will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 11:00- 12:00p.m. at the Kane-Jerrett North York Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge Street, North York.
Funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home from 12:00-1:00 p.m, following the visitation with interment at the York Cemetery (160 Beecroft, Toronto).
Reception will be held back at the Funeral Home at 2:00p.m.
