b. Nov. 6 1932, Hendon, England- d. Feb. 19 2023, Aurora, ON; of natural causes.
Predeceased by beloved husband Mercer, brother Richard, and the Queen. Loving Mum of Caroline (David), Sarah (Colin) and Louise (Wayne). Checkers-'losing' Granneee of Matthew (Jessica), Katrina (Chad), Elliott (Emily), Sean (Hannah), Paul (Jose), Laura (Tom), Rhys and Zoe.
Helen was a Canadian by choice, moving from England by way of N. Ireland, Jamaica and Belize, arriving in Toronto in 1968. She was equally likely to quote Keats (“a thing of beauty is a joy forever”) as to tell you exactly what she thought (“what a lot of ruddy nonsense!”). Helen loved languages, books, Pavarotti, choc-ices and a good cup of tea.
Helen was a generous host to friends & family from around the world, mixing lovely dinners with lively conversation. She was equally happy sleeping in a tent in Maine, and in her later years, she enjoyed family weekends at the cottage, especially with a spirited game of Scrabble.
A heartfelt thank you to caregiver Girlie, and the truly fantastic staff at Chartwell Aurora.
A service will be held in the chapel at Kane-Jerrett North York Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge St. (South of Steeles Ave.) on Friday Feb. 24th, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Helen’s name to SickKids, Doctors Without Borders, Cressy United Church, Picton (cressyglenorachurch@gmail.com).
