November 20, 1926 - June 26, 2014. Peacefully but due to the ravages of three cancers, in the Palliative Care Unit at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where her last weeks were graced with the care and friendship of the nursing staff, social workers, doctors and visitors.
A coal miner's daughter, Greta's life began in Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island. Her inner strength, vitality, determination and sense of propriety were formed by her upbringing in that community during the Great Depression. She took her profession of Nursing very seriously and always exuded compassion and common sense.
Greta is predeceased by her husband Arthur Morrison, by her parents Roland and Elsie Smith, and by her siblings Lorraine Smith, Vivian (Thomas) Moore, Roland (Birgitte) Smith, Raymond (Edith) Smith, Norma (William) Attwood.
Greta is survived by her siblings Shirley (Raymond) Hennessey Rhodena (James) Brown, Lester (Joyce) Smith and Fredrick (Sharon) Smith. She will live-on in the heart of her son Daniel and daughter-in-law Danica (Bukovec), and their children Alexander and Rebecca.
She leaves many cherished friends at St. Leonard's, in her neighbourhood and at the various skating clubs in and around Toronto.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial Eucharist will follow on Saturday July 5th at 11 a.m. (visitation 10:00, Funeral Mass at 11:00, followed by a reception) at St. Leonard's Anglican Church in Toronto (25 Wanless Avenue). A second memorial will take place later this summer at St. Mary's Anglican Church in Glace Bay.
