Grace was born on October 28, 1922 to Queen and Hiram Young in St. John’s Newfoundland. She had three older brothers and was the fourth of six sisters. Her youngest sister Roberta lives in St. Johns. After graduating from high school, Grace went on to study nursing in in Newfoundland before moving to work in hospitals on the ‘mainland’ in Montreal and in Sackville, New Brunswick where she met her husband to be, Al, in 1947.
They wed in November 1949 and had two children, John and Paul who both live in Toronto with their spouses. In 1950, Grace and Al moved to Toronto where they both found jobs. Grace dedicated her early adult life to being a mother while pursuing her nursing career. Nursing was a very appropriate occupation for Grace as she excelled at helping and caring for others. Whether it was to support her children or Al, Grace made it her mission to improve the lives of others.
Grace was a dedicated churchgoer, avid singer and amateur actor and sailor, book club member, and tireless volunteer who had a very wide circle of friends and admirers. Funeral arrangements, a visitation, and a service are in the planning stages. She will be missed.
A visitation for Grace will be held Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Giffen-Mack and Trull Funeral Home, 2570 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON M4C1L3, followed by a memorial service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
