It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Fiona Marie Smith on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, a vibrant spirit and troubled soul who left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew her.
Fiona Marie Smith was born on Tuesday, December 23, 1975, at Scarborough General Hospital to proud parents, Harry and Eleanor Smith becoming their third child after older brother Harry (Irene) and older sister Orla (Blair). Given it was so close to Christmas, Fiona was presented to her parents in a Christmas stocking, a piece of memorabilia that was trotted out for show and tell every holiday season. Fiona grew up in what is now Malvern on an amazing street filled with Irish and Scottish immigrant families where the children roamed free all day and returned home when the streetlights came on. She attended St Barnabas, St Brendan's, and St Pope John Paul II before graduating from Centennial College.
Fiona worked as a Pharmacy Technician and also taught compounding at a private college in Sudbury before returning to the warmer temperatures of Toronto to spend more time with her beloved nephews Kaeden, Aidan, and Ciaran. Known affectionately as Auntie Fi-Fi, she was the perfect naughty aunt allowing the boys to eat, drink and do all the things that their parents tried to keep from them, and the boys loved her immensely for it. Aunty Fi-Fi loved her nephews wholeheartedly.
Fiona loved Christmas and music and swimming and nature. The backyard at the family home was a special place for Fiona to recuperate and recharge when life got tough. She had the amazing ability to organize other people's homes to a Marie Kondo-like space, however odd it was that she struggled to organize her own space. She was generous with her time when someone was in need, providing support and comfort and patience.
Fiona is survived by her loving and patient parents, Harry and Eleanor, pain-in-the-ass siblings Harry and Orla, favourite sister-in-law Irene, beloved nephews Kaeden, Aidan and Ciaran, Brenda and “little” Ciaran and many courtesy and actual relatives in Canada, Ireland, and the United States.
