Uncle John was always so kind hearted and a very caring, genuine man!  Will miss his laughter and constant humour and was alwas fun to be around.  He was a wonferful Uncle and I miss him dearly!  My condolences to my cousin Jessica and her family....and to Uncles and Aunts.  Love you all and my heart aches for such a big loss to our family.

Took me a few days to process this. . . I knew him all my life and growing up without a father , he was like a father to me when I was younger . Gave me crap when I deserved it and was always joking around at church functions. Please give Aunt Ann big hugs and kisses for me please . Until we meet again.

He always called me Sue St. Marie because that’s where my name came from, Sault Ste. Marie.  He was always my coolest uncle ever since he snuck me beers at another uncles wedding so that my parents would not see me drink, even though I was of legal age. Although I haven’t seen him since I moved out of Toronto, I will miss him. My prayers to Jessica and her family.  

And he also crushed my hand on every greeting.

The first time I saw/heard Elder John explain smudging and say the prayers to the four directions, I was very moved. With time I learned of his great sense of humour. This year on Easter Sunday I finally got out of bed and went to the beautiful Sunrise Ceremony at Native People's Mission. This was followed by a delicious breakfast, where I met John's daughter and grandchildren ( of whom he often spoke so kindly) "Listen to the children",  he said. John gave us a lesson on the Grandfather's Teachings. He will be missed, but so many wonderful memories. Thank you John, as you have passed through that Western door. Goodbye.  Love to the family.

John is a dear old friend. We met when John and his family helped to run a food bank on Roncesvales Ave for 18 years.  He told me his stories about his parish work helping those in need. I also respected all his work within the Catholic community. He was a very good person. John give Anne my regards. I’m sure she has missed you.
