Sept. 30, 1930 – Aug. 27, 2012
Resident of Scarborough
Emmerich Lang passed away peacefully on August 27, 2012 at Seven Oaks Home for the Aged, after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Margarete Theresa Lang (1936-1997).
Emmerich was born in Austria and emigrated to Canada in his early twenties. Margarete joined him a few years later and they were married in 1957. Emmerich began a long career with the TTC, Birchmount Garage. He joined the division's soccer team and enjoyed many wins and exciting games until an injury forced him to the sidelines. He is still remembered as one of the TTC's most valuable players.
Emmerich was also a skilled craftsman and cabinet maker. He could be depended on for his knowledge of any construction or building project. He brought his talents to use while building beautiful custom pieces, helping friends, or maintaining his cottage on Lake Muskoka.
In his retirement, 'Opa' could be found on the bleachers at his grandsons hockey or soccer games, bowling with his league in Scarborough, or working on a project in his wood shop. His energy was tireless, and it was with great disappointment that illness took over and forced him to slow down.
Emmerich leaves behind his beloved daughters: Doris Lang-Johnson (John), Audrey Wright (John), and Sharon Lang (Mike Fellows). He will be sadly missed by his grandsons: Nicholas, Matthew, Emery, and Nathan. He also leaves behind brothers and sisters in Austria, and in-laws, the Sauhammel family of Alliston, Ont.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Emmerich's life on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Road (South of Eglinton Avenue East), Scarborough. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, and a service at 11:00 am.
Donations may be made to Parkinson Society Canada or the charity of your choice.
The family thanks the supportive nurses and staff at Seven Oaks Home for the Aged.
His strength and fortitude are our shining example.
