On Thurs September 23, 2021 in her 103rd year Eileen Jean Baker entered peacefully into eternal life at the Harold & Grace Baker Retirement Centre in North York, where she would be welcomed home by her Mother Elena (Stewart) Baker and father Albert Baker, younger sister Verna Snow & brother Alan Baker, brothers in law Harold Snow & Leslie Duncan & beloved nieces & nephews gone before her.
Eileen is survived by her younger sister of 10 yrs. Marion (Baker) Duncan of Brockville, ON and sister-in-law Marie (White) Baker of Pefferlaw, ON. Eileen had 21 nieces & nephews, 31 great nieces & nephews & 24 great, great nieces & nephews (including spouses).
Eileen Jean was born to Elena & Albert Baker November 14, 1918 in Lion's Head in the Northern Bruce Peninsula, ON along with her sister Verna. The family later moved to Proton Station, ON where sister Marion, brother Alan were born.
Eileen attended the Pilgrim Holiness Bible School in Proton Station. In her early twenty’s Eileen & sister, Verna moved to Toronto, where Eileen got her first job as a house cleaner and in 1938, started attending Oakwood (Pilgrim Holiness) Wesleyan Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. At 20 years old she was appointed the church treasurer and later an active church board member. She also volunteered as the Central Canada Wesleyan District Treasurer overseeing the finances of all the Wesleyan Churches in the District and was ordained by the Wesleyan District as a commissioned lay worker. Eileen attended business school and was an accountant for over forty years. She loved & dedicated her life to the Church and considered the Church her family.
Oakwood Wesleyan in Toronto honored her dedication and commitment to her Church and love for ministry by establishing an Eileen Baker Scholarship Foundation in her name, over 25 years ago to support youth preparing for the ministry and for pastors & missionaries.
Eileen never married and contributed that to her longevity of life, nor had any children of her own but she had the gift of loving each single niece and nephew like they were her own, plus several other close friends & families. She lived over an entire century through the Great Depression to the new Millennium and accepted all the changes & challenges each year brought with grace. Eileen’s life is a legacy & true inspiration.
Eileen’s family would like to thank the health care workers & staff at the Harold & Grace Retirement Centre for their years of love and care & friendships. Heartfelt thank you to The Oakwood Wesleyan Church family for their continued fellowship, love, and prayers over her lifetime.
