Edwina was a remarkable woman of unwavering faith and exceptional musical talent. Offering counsel and comfort to everyone she encountered, she was dedicated to her family above all else. She was a selfless, devoted mother to Paul (Tove), Marc, and David (Cathy), a proud, loving grandmother to Paige (Andy), Hilary (Brent), Alannah (Alex), Kirk, and Rachelle, and a compassionate sister, aunt, friend, and loved one to so many.
As a piano and theory instructor to Royal Conservatory of Music students, Edwina patiently instilled solid musical foundations in all she taught. She was chief editor of the late Rev. George Wilson’s sermons, contributing her keen eye and passionate voice. As an organist and pianist, Edwina accompanied services led by her husband, her musicianship on display for generations of congregations.
A wise student of music, theology, literature, and history, Edwina often remarked that she “could never be bored” with all there was to learn in this world. She was eager to lend a humble ear to anyone in need, listening with undivided attention as others shared their stories and dreams, troubles and fears. In spite of the loss and pain she suffered throughout her life, Edwina remained eternally gentle of heart; never for a moment succumbing to bitterness or cynicism, but rather, braving her hardships with fierce courage and grace.
Edwina spoke frequently of the extraordinary care she received as a resident at St. Clair O’Connor Community Centre. We are deeply grateful that she spent her final years surrounded by staff who cared for her like family and appreciated what a rare soul she was.
All who knew Edwina will miss her. But we take comfort in her abiding belief that wherever she has gone, she has been reunited with her dear husband, George, beloved father, Emrys Rowlands, and cherished sister, Leila Ranney. A celebration of life will be held at St. Clair O’Connor Community Centre in the near future. In loving memory of Edwina, donations may be made to Evangel Hall Missions, St. Clair O’Connor Nursing Home, or any charity of your choice.
