Don was born in Toronto on May 17, 1933, to his mother Margaret May Gapp (nee Halliday) and father Robert Charles Gapp.
He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (nee McNiffe), brother Tom (Muriel), sister Kay (George), sister Ellen (Jim) and his brother Bob. He is survived by Bob's wife, Shirley and their daughters Linda (Murray), Cathy (John), Kay's children Ken (Patti) and Patricia (Sam) and Ellen's daughters Karen and Val (Bill), and by his long time companion Julia Paranova.
As a youth, Don got himself banned from the local swimming pool, after having been caught more than a couple of times in the deep pool with his friends, but Don could not swim. He loved cars, and at one time raced stock cars at the CNE.
He married his sweetheart Dorothy and they lived in a two level apartment until they were able to move into their first and only home on Pendle Hill Court. He worked at Eaton's, Laura Secord, and Roundtree. Once retired, he was an avid walker and spent early mornings down at the Bluffs, his favourite location.
He enjoyed the outdoors and watching sports, especially those no good Jays.
