November 14th, 1972 – February 9th, 2022
Passed suddenly in Toronto, early into the 20th anniversary of his 29th year. David was a vital partner, son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle and friend.
Always the life of the party with a beaming smile, Dave and his Halloween bashes were legendary. He welcomed everyone with open arms and an open heart. He was fiercely loyal and inspired loyalty from others. He was never satisfied with good enough; he always went above and beyond to make every occasion special. He would relish in loved ones’ enjoyment, whether in an expertly cooked Italian dinner or a thoughtful gift that you didn’t even realize you needed – he knew how to make each person feel special, loved and seen. He followed all-things pop culture, TV, movies (especially horror) and music (we all know his icons). A passionately loyal fan of Janet Jackson, her music inspired and lifted him up. His creativity knew no bounds; from painting and drawing to furniture restoration, interior design, or cooking and gardening, all of his endeavours were imbued with his unique vision and style. He was the tech genius of the family and the “IT guy" who always had the latest and greatest gadgets. His enthusiasm was indeed infectious. Always hard-working, he studied film production and editing. He worked in film and television and later became a dedicated TTC employee.
David will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his partner Tim Baubie, his parents, Sharon West, Marvin Pernica and Deedee Edelstein. His siblings Ariane, Zandra, Paloma Lauren (Antione), Marci (Higor), Daniel, niece, Theodora, nephew, Greyson, granny Fran Edelstein and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. He took great joy in looking after his puppies Oscar, Caesar and Gigi. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Gwen West, Percy and Sarha Pernica, and Bill Edelstein.
He loved visiting his family in Bermuda, and Dave and Tim were also building a second home and community in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico which he looked forward to enjoying with everyone.
David’s spirit made the world brighter – his humour and deep belly laugh were contagious. David would on occasion tease, with a mischievous smile and twinkle in his eye, that “I’m kind of a big deal”; and for those who were fortunate enough to know him and love him, he absolutely was...and will continue to be so forever in our hearts.
