David MacKinnon Odell

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved David MacKinnon Odell at age 62. David died at Princess Margaret in Palliative Care on Wednesday November, 10, 2010, surrounded by his family.

Deeply loved husband of Cynthia and dear Step Dad of Geoff & Jillian Kirkland, and Geoff’s fiancée Lesley. Adored big brother of Vicki Lindsay and her husband Peter, and their children Michael and Robin, and Michael’s partner Carly. Predeceased by his infant twin brother Peter. Cherished son of Gordon and the late Jean Odell, and dear son-in-law of Noreen Bennett. Special friend of the Fotheringham/Hageman families. He will be missed by his dogs Bailey, Sky and Gorgeous, who cherished the times we spent hiking the trails and on the boat at our cottage on Stony Lake.

Until recently, David was the President and CEO of the Data Group of Companies, an income trust, where his driving force was to ensure excellent shareholder value, and to provide a good livelihood for his many employees. Prior to this David was the President of the Yorkville Group, and Network Studios/Empress Graphics.

Throughout his career David took great pride in mentoring bright young talent. David had a very giving heart, and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need, whether he knew them or not. Two charities closest to his heart were Kid’s Help Phone and Eva’s Phoenix. If you so choose, memorial donations to them in David’s honour would be appreciated (in lieu of flowers).

As David’s cancer progressed, he entered into the amazing care of the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care ward (16th floor) at Princess Margaret Hospital. Led by Dr. Julia Ridley, their compassion and quality of care sustained us. A special thank you to nurses Catherine, Sonya, Katrina, Patricia, Shadonna, Ann, Nemia, Lisa, Erin & Becky - the journey would have been so much tougher without you.
