He is survived by his children Tobin and Stephanie (of Elaine MacIntosh) and step-children Lori and Leah (of Emily Fortune). He was pre-deceased by his son Ryan.
David served as proud grandparent who was affectionately known as “Uncle Dave” to Matthew, Sydney, Emma and Owen.
Throughout his lifetime, David had a number of experiences personally and professionally that gave way to his love of story telling. Although born in Ohio, USA, he was raised in his home community of Middleton, Nova Scotia. He loved to play sports, enjoyed summer camping and attended Acadia University. From his early days as a valet in Cape Cod to serving the US Army in France, Dave was affectionately known for his quick wit and dry sense of humour.
It was in Ontario that Dave established permanent roots, and successfully worked in the insurance industry for decades. Dave’s ability to form relationships and strong work ethic allowed him to continue working into his 70s as a consultant and trainer in the non-profit arena.
Of his greatest accomplishments was his pride and love for all those around. Never missing school concerts, birthdays, baptisms and Sunday dinners, he was steadfast in the lives of his family. He loved the game of golf, reading the daily news and seeing every new movie in the theatre. His calm and reassuring presence made him an amazing role model and listening ear whenever needed. A true gentleman, he was sure to catch the door, share in great conversation and inquire about the wellbeing of others right until his passing. He was known for his gentle chuckle, even at the most difficult of times.
In honour of Dave’s wishes, a cremation has taken place. He will be brought to his once again forever home of Nova Scotia.
