She relocated to Jamaica as a young adult where she met Albert Lewis Lyle and married him in November 1949. The couple then embarked on several years of missionary service in various islands.
In 1954, they moved to the Cayman Islands where they served until returning to Jamaica in 1957, after which they embarked on another adventure, this time to the Bahamas. There Clara matriculated in a practical nursing program and worked in that capacity for several years.
The family returned to Jamaica in 1960, and while her husband furthered his education, Clara worked at the West Indies Union of Seventh-day Adventists in Mandeville as a secretary. Upon completion of her husband’s education, they began ministry in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica.
In 1966, they accepted a call to the Cayman Islands, where they served for 4 years before returning to Jamaica to work in the Central Jamaica Conference. In 1976, they received a call to serve in the West Indies Union where Clara once again worked as a secretary.
In 1984, the family immigrated to Canada, where Clara worked in health care at North York General Hospital, Finch site (formerly Branson Hospital).
Clara was active in her church and served in various capacities including elder, greeter, teacher, chorister, and choir member.
Her health declined in recent years. Clara was admitted to hospital on September 8, 2024 and passed away 3 weeks later on the morning of September 29, 2024.
Her sense of humour and quick wit endeared her to many.
She will be missed by family members, her church family, friends, and associates.
We look forward to the greatest homecoming of them all with all of God’s children; yes, with Clara and with Jesus.
Visitation will be held at the Kane-Jerrett North York Funeral Home, (6191 Yonge St. south of Steeles Ave.) on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm and on Monday at Immanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church, (418 Drewry Ave. Toronto) from 10 am until time of the funeral service which will commence in the Sanctuary at 11 am. Interment to follow at Westminster Cemetery, (5830 Bathurst St. Toronto).
