Jenny was a regular at the Ryerson Athletic Centre for decades.   That is how I came to know her.  She was a stellar role model for me and an inspiration for others as well.  She swam 3 times a week and worked out with weights.  Once in her  early 80’s she ran with me for half a lap on the running track!!!

She was as sharp as a tack, always able to recall small details about my life, which I had forgotten that I had mentioned in passing.

She was thoughtful, giving, curious and had a wonderful sense of humour.  I will miss her and am grateful that I was able to cross paths in this life with her.


Hi Uncle Ken and Johnny,

On behalf of my family -- wife Yvonne, kids Elliott (11) and Jordan (9) -- here in Oakland, California (SF Bay Area), I'd like to give our condolences.   While our family has not yet made our trip/visit to beautiful Toronto, I often share memories and stories of my childhood summers in Toronto.  Your mother (and father!) was integral to this super positive experience that has lasted a lifetime.  

I know that you are both so close and tight with Great Auntie -- I tell my wife and kids how full of grace, elegance, and poise she was; my wife remarks on how beautiful and together she is from the pictures I share.  In helping my mother prepare her letter, I learned today that beneath her glowing exterior she maintained a remarkable mental toughness that enabled her family to thrive and grow.  This is a true testament to her legacy as we all now continue to live in this spirit.  

My mom and I have shared more memories than allowed on this platfom, but we will have to one day soon regather and sustain the beautiful spirit of your mother!  Please feel welcome to visit us here in the amazing SF Bay area, where our family are all happily situated (Karen family, Greg and my family plus Marilyn/David  within 10 miles of each other!).

Aleks and I were so sad to read about your mother’s passing.  She was an amazing lady, so generous and kind and full of life and always there with a smile and a gentle manner.  The world needs more people like your mother.

Dear Ken and John,

We have many fond memories of your mom -- my favorite Aunt -- especially in the early years, when she first came to Vancouver, Canada.  She came alone at first, already married, as a refugee from the wars in China.  She stayed at our home as our 'baby sitter', when our parents were working as life educators in the community.  She was very kind and warm, told little stories, took us on walks, and played with us.  

We included your dad, who then moved to Toronto.  They tried many little businesses, and Auntie was very involved and worked very hard, especially with two young children.  Johnny was very active, I remember.  Further on they had success in the floral and camera business with help from you both.  There was even a short time when I worked at their little fruit and grocery store as a 16 year old teenager.

While times were really tough when she arrived, especially with Uncle Ed and Arthur to care for, our families did have a great time at the cottage in Allenwood/Wasaga Beach.  The wonderful sandy beaches --so wide and the water so warm to swim in.  What fun we had when there was time to get together.  A favorite memory was when we were all playing on the beach and Johnny rode up in his green-laced Harley Davidson motorcycle, fully geared in biker boots and clothing -- he was quite the center of attention! 

And perhaps this captures Auntie's non-conventional life-style and spirit that lives on in all of us today.

Dear John and Ken,
I am so sorry to learn of your mother's passing.  I remember Mrs. Ho as a very gracious lady.  She warmly invited me into her home and I had the pleasure of fine dining at her table.  I have fond memories of having dinner with all of you.  I will keep her and you in my prayers.  Deepest sympathy to you both.
