Charles "Ellsworth" Smith passed away peacefully on October 12th, 2024, at the age of 86. Born in Bermuda on January 7th, 1938 to Jennie Irene (Née Simmons) and William Charles (“Sykes”) Smith. Predeceased by his loving wife, Yvonne, and brothers, William Maurice “Sykes” Smith (Norma), Lawrence Eugene Smith, and Calvin Maxwell Smith (Barbara).
Ellsworth will be deeply missed by his sons Aaron (Karen), and Jason (Casandra); grandchildren Alicia, Shaqueem, Shaune, Jaysean, Tyler, Tye, Lindsay and Jai-Anna; goddaughter Edeva and many more family members and friends too numerous to mention.
Ellsworth came to Canada to finish his schooling in 1956 and met his soulmate, Yvonne, almost immediately. They married in 1960 and celebrated 55 years together before her passing in 2015. He was a career civil servant who worked at Statistics Canada for over 35 years before retiring. Outside of work, he spent countless hours in the community, as a soccer coach, a scout leader, and a welcoming friend and helpful neighbour to many.
He lived a full and meaningful life, filled with love, laughter, and wisdom, leaving behind countless cherished memories. He was a beacon of strength and kindness, and his impact on those who knew him will forever be remembered.
A memorial service for Ellsworth will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Providence Healthcare Chapel, 3276 St Clair Avenue East, Toronto, ON M1L 1W1. Following the memorial service will be an urn committal to follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 2700 Kingston Rd, Toronto, ON M1M 1M5.
