March 27, 2022
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Antonietta Curcio on March 27, 2022. She ascended to heaven with angels and was surround by love and family. Beloved wife of 54 years to the late Carmine Curcio. Dear mother of Eugene (Mary), Joanna (late Frank) Palmeri and Mary. Loving grandmother of Antonietta (Clayton), Carmine, Livita (William), Francesca, Josie (David), Stefania, Daniel (Ashley). Proud great-grandmother of Katherine, Cesare, Ava and Andrew. Predeceased by her sister Nellia (late Nicola) Macchione, predeceased by her brother Vittorio (late Filippina) Trunzo and sadly missed by her sister Caterina (late Domenico) Rauti. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Antonietta was born in Nocera Terinese, Calabria, Italy. On August 13, 1949 she married the love of her life, Carmine. Shortly after the birth of their son, Eugene, dad immigrated to Canada and two and a half years later mom and Eugene boarded the Homeland ship liner to cross the Atlantic to be reunited with dad again. As they called more family members from Italy to immigrate to Canada, a special bond of respect and admiration continued to develop between Antonietta and her late father-in-law, Eugenio Curcio. Mom was a devoted homemaker and a silent pillar of strength for dad. Together they made a new life in Canada enduring hardships and making sacrifices for their family. Later in life, mom and dad enjoyed the fruits of their labour as they travelled and spent time at the cottage or in Florida. Her favourite place was home with family and friends. Though she maintained she disliked speaking on the phone, she took great delight in chatting and laughing with her cousin, Felicia in Pennsylvania; Filippina in New York; Louisa in the city; and her nephew, Mario in Windsor. She was fiercely independent and learned to speak English on her own which allowed her to share in two languages her numerous “www” Wonderful Words of Wisdom. In spite of mom’s experiences during the war, poverty, a new country, and even Covid-19 restrictions, she was an eternal optimist. Her happy disposition and keen sense of humour endeared her to all who met her and she will be forever loved and deeply missed. Heaven has gained a very special soul who is now reunited with Carmine, the love of her life, her mother, and all her loved ones.
We are grateful to all the kindness and care extended to mom from relatives, friends, acquaintances and staff at the Houses of Providence. A special thank you to Dr. Robin Verduyn, Houses of Providence for her skill and compassionate care and to Faye Johnson, PSW for her love and support. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, a private family visitation will take place. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be available livestream on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 10:00 am by going to www.jerrettscarborough.com; selecting Antonietta Curcio; then selecting livestream. The entombment will take place at Westminster Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place at a future date.
