It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Angelo Capobianco at 85 years of age on July 3rd, 2015. Angelo will be deeply missed by his wife Amalia, his children Antonio (Patrizia), Giovanna (Salvatore) and his grandchildren, Angelo, Nicholas, Michael, Joshua, and Carmelina (Mike). He will also be missed by his sister Michelina....being predeceased by his brothers Mario, Pasquale, Guerino, and sister Teresa.
Angelo immigrated to Canada in 1956. Working very hard, he saved enough money to send for his sweetheart Amalia so they could start their new life in Canada. They were a beautiful couple. They got married on September 14, 1957 and have been together ever since. Angelo started his life in Canada working for Miller Paving. Then proceeded to work at CEB which is better known today as Sylvania. Later he worked together with his wife in Environmental Services at Toronto East General Hospital. Our father loved working there. He was well respected and very good at his job taking great pride at everything he did.
Most people who knew our father would describe him as a sweet, kind and compassionate man. Although he was a big man, he was so sensitive. Anything you said that touched him...his eyes would swell up and tears would flow becoming so choked up he was not able to speak. When his older brother Guerino fell ill, he was always by his side. He would visit him up to three times a day making sure he was ok as Guerino lived alone and had no wife and no children. Angelo loved the Danforth and his many daily walks. He did not drive but living near the Danforth, he walked everywhere. He would walk to the bank, his doctor, the bakery, the grocery store , the pharmacy and his club among other places. He knew everyone on the Danforth. He even walked to work everyday living at the same address 968 Greenwood for over 55 years. He had lots of friends who enjoyed his company.
He planted a beautiful garden every year. Everything was planted and positioned just right. He even watered them all by hand never by hose. We all looked forward to eating his delicious tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce among other things. He always planted what we liked best. And his eyes would light up when we told him his tomatoes were so big and delicious. Our father loved his family and was very proud of us and all our accomplishments. Angelo loved to dance, he loved his pasta, he loved to cook, he loved making homemade wine, his garage (mancave), and being a Bersagliere and attending their functions.
He trained in Rome, Italy as a Bersagliere (rifleman) which is a specialty of the Italian army infantry corps. They can be recognized by their distinctive wide-brimmed hats decorated with black capercaillie feathers which is worn with the dress uniform and applied to their combat helmets as well. They are recognized for their quick, high-stepping march.
He was so proud and honoured to be a Bersagliere as we were of him as well. Papa we will miss you and you will be forever in our hearts. Till we meet again. Special thanks to the Pallative Department at Toronto East General Hospital.
