08/13/1927 – 02/11/2022
Aileen Slavin (née Johnston) passed away peacefully on Friday, February 11, and is greatly missed by her six children, Theresa, Paul, Mary, Gerry, Janet, and Christopher, and her six grandchildren, Desneige, Adam, Dylan, Maddy, Max and Jack.
Aileen was a doting mother and grandmother, a devoted wife to Eugene Michael, who died in 1993, and a devout Catholic her whole life. She loved sewing, quilting, gardening, cooking, singing and, in her earlier years, travel, tennis, golf and skiing. An entrepreneur, Aileen invented the Tyscot (R) and ran her own successful sewing business from the basement of our house in Montreal while raising six children. Through many difficulties in her life she maintained a steadfast presence, helping to steer her children towards success and fulfilment.
Aileen was the last surviving member of the Johnston clan, pre-deceased by her beloved sisters Betty, Elly and Edna, her half-sister Mary, and her brothers Ken and Joe. She also lost her much loved cousin, Camilla, a few years ago.
The family are grateful to the staff at Providence House, 3rd floor Aspen wing for the compassionate care they provided to Aileen.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Gerstein Crisis Centre at 100 Charles Street East, Toronto.
Two visitations for Aileen will be held Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and then from 3:00 to 4:00 pm at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street, Toronto, ON M4X 1K5.
A funeral mass will occur Friday, February 25, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 354 St. Clair Ave. W, Toronto, ON M5P 1N4.
