Wow! I can’t believe it’s been one year already. The thing I miss most about Wayne was the funny things he said. It’s like he had his own catchphrases. My favorite was when he would stick a jumpshot in someone’s face and tell them to eat one.

I am sad to hear that my friend Wayne of 40+ years has passed away. We grew up right across the street from one another and played a lot of basketball in the schoolyard. Not because we were friends but Wayne was one of the greatest basketball players I ever seen. We had a lot of good times and we did Party a lot. You will be missed my friend until I see you again.

Just found out this evening of Wayne's passing. Way too young. Wayne was a Brother of the Jersey City Heights . During our Grade School and HS years our days were spent playing hoops in PS 27 Schoolyard... Tar Beach for all of us. Wayne was a very good basketball player... was a very good point guard and could also shoot, pass and a tough defensive player. Off the Courts, we did not hang out in the same circles, but we were friends and he would do anything for his friends . He was loyal and as tough as they come... a true Heights kid. RIP Wayne...

I am Deeply saddend by the Death of my Friend of over  30  years ,  we played Basketball together at   PS. 27 gym , and many other School yards , Leagues . Miss your crazy spontaneous ass Uncle Wayne ! I can still hear your voice saying my mother's name "Dean Dean" with that crazy laugh and followed up with an even better story..But dont worry if she missed your call there was always a voice-mail lol.. Sometimes, when I'm outside her house, I think maybe you will be walking up the street or trying to catch the bus. I remember when I was young, you always teaching me games from when you were in "college in Florida"lol and no matter what you were going through or how hard life may have been at the moment you always thought of everyone. Faith and Mandy just loved you so much. Time to rest. Love you always, Brittany.

Growing up across the street from P.S. 27 on Kennedy Blvd holds a special place in my memories. It was during those formative years that I experienced a life-changing event. At the age of 12, freshly acquainted with the neighborhood, I ventured into the schoolyard with a basketball in hand. That day marked the formation of teams for a new league, a day that would alter the course of my life.

Coach Vic entrusted Wayne with the task of selecting a player. To my astonishment, Wayne chose me.  Our bond grew unbreakable, and from then on, basketball consumed our days. Wayne personified determination, a relentless drive to attain greatness.
Wayne's mastery was undisputed, making him the preeminent player in our state. His dominance within his age group was prodigious, a testament to his exceptional talents.
Beyond the court, Wayne's adventurous spirit infused our friendship with excitement. Our camaraderie extended beyond basketball as we shared in countless escapades. 

The significance he held in my life is immeasurable. Memories of Wayne will persist, carried forward through tales shared with friends, passed down to my children, and echoed within the players I coach here in California.

My Dear friend Wayne , I can’t believe I’m writing this, our 39 year friendship I can say you truly were my best friend. I’m going to miss you and all your advice you gave me. You were definitely one of a kind my friend. 🙏 I am lucky enough to have had the chance to know you I’m so thankful for the past few years together. 😢 I know your at peace with mom and dad . 💔 Gone way too soon! I met Wayne in Match of this year in Hunter NY. We quickly became friends and spent hours talking. Wayne told me about places I knew nothing about, like Kensington Philadelphia and Camden New Jersey and Atlantic City.   His heart was breaking as we watched the videos of people in Kensington.  It broke over and over again for the people he knew in those towns.  I remember the day we watched Amber being interviewed on YouTube and he called her up right after to tell her she was on the tv and had 15000 views.  He told me how much he cared about people and wanted to help everyone he could.  He told me about his kids and how much he loved them. And he told me how somehow God reached him in prison and changed his life.  Whenever I saw him he had the tv going and Christian music playing. He especially loved Lauren Daigle.   And one of his most favorite songs was this one

It’s two sisters singing.  He would say “they are so pure”.  Pure can be hard to find in this world. 

My life is much richer for having known Wayne.  I’m sad it was for such a short time.  We all are sad he left us so soon. Left with hopes and dreams and plans for the future that will never happen.  But he told me so many times that now that he knew God he was at peace.  He wanted to live but was at peace with dying.  I’m glad to know  that. 

I will always love you Wayne, always be grateful for your friendship.  Till we meet again, my friend. 

I love you daddy 🥹 I’m crying writing this… so I’m leaving this short and sweet. You were never one for emotional tributes anyway. You’ll always be my best friend, and just know you did everything you could and I love you infinitely 😘

I will truly miss you, my brother I used to love playing basketball with you in the schoolyard day and night. We had so much fun doing that anyway Wayne keep mommy and daddy company. I will always love you and keep you in my mind. Rest in peace, my brother Wayne love, your brother Billy.
