Vincent J. Nuzzi, 99, of the Holiday City South section of Berkeley Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Born in West New York, he resided there prior to moving to Berkeley Township in 1986. Vincent graduated from Memorial High School in West New York. He was a decorated veteran of World War II as a part of the “297th” Army Combat Engineers. One of the few remaining WWII veterans who landed in Normandy on D-Day he was a decorated war veteran whose battalion supported General Patton’s 3rd Army. Upon his return from the war he met and wed his wife of 68 years, Sylvia DiStefano. While in Berkeley Township Vincent was an active member of the Holiday City South bowling and Bocci clubs. He was an avid Giants and Yankees fan and enjoyed watching and talking about his beloved teams. He also was a compassionate cook and baker. He cherished his family’s traditional Italian meals and recipes and was always excited to share them with friends and neighbors. Additionally, he was an avid gardener. He enjoyed growing a vast assortment of fruits and vegetables.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Clara Nuzzi, his loving wife Sylvia, and both of his sons Vincent Jr. and Gerard as well as his 11 brothers and sisters.
Surviving are many generations of loving family members such as his grand-daugher Vanessa Cerchio and her husband David of Mendham and grandson Matthew Nuzzi and fiancee Kathleen Nyygen of Morristown; great-grandchildren, Dominick, Chase, Catherine, and Nathaniel. Vincent was also loved and cared for by many of his loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday June 17, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08755. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church 130 St. Maximilian Lane Toms River, NJ 08757. Entombment with Military Honors will be held at Madonna Cemetery 2070 Hoefley’s Lane Fort Lee, NJ 07024 at 1:30 PM.
