Vincent J. Hoefling Sr., 64, of Toms River, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010, at home, with his loving wife at his side. Vince was born in Elizabeth and resided in Linden before enlisting in the Army at 18. After serving his country, he joined the City of Linden Fire Department and served for 25 years, retiring in 1993. He also served as past president FMBA Local #34. Vince then went on to become the Fire Sub-Code Official for Berkeley Township, took on responsibility of Fire Official and created the Fire Prevention Bureau for the township. He continued his fire career with the N.J. Department of Human Services as a Safety Officer and later with the N.J. Department of Community Affairs as a Construction Official. He held numerous licenses, including EMT, Hazmat Specialist and Arson Investigator. Vince was a member of the Woodbridge Elks, American Legion, a 4th Degree Knight of Assembly #857 in Woodbridge, and a Master Mason of Harmony Lodge No. 18.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Constance Hoefling; and his sister, Roberta Knapp. Surviving are his beloved wife and best friend, Kimberly; a daughter, Tiffany Gomes and her husband Jeff; sons, Hans Christian Hoefling, Vincent J. Hoefling Jr. and Robert Hoefling; step-daughters, Rachel, Morgan and Lauren Davis; his sisters, Elizabeth Davis and her husband Ted, Barbara Hoefling, Janet Campbell, and Linda Hoefling; three grandchildren, Emma, Abby and Jacob Gomez; his uncle, Edward Hoefling and his wife Jean; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 22, with services for the Linden Fireman's Exempt Association at 7:30 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 23 at St. Joseph's Church, 685 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Burial will follow at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
