Thomas McCann, 68, of Manchester, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 19, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in the Bronx, NY, he grew up in Bergenfield, NJ and also lived in New Milford, NJ before moving to Manchester.
Tom graduated from Bergen Catholic HS Class of 1972, attended Rutgers University, Newark.
Tom worked as a carpenter and then as a machinist for most of his career. He was an avid bowler and golfer who loved all sports, especially the Giants and the Mets. Tom was an avid reader, who loved to play cards and take the occasional trip to Atlantic City. Tom played the bagpipes with Clan Na Vale Pipe Band for many years. He was a frequent, but quiet volunteer, always ready to help family and friends with any projects.
Supporting and attending his nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews in their sporting activities was of great importance to Tom. And whether they called him “Uncle Oscar the grouch” or “Uncle Yahoote”, he teased all the kids --- and they all loved it.
Tom is preceded in death by: his Parents Frank and Bridget (Maye) and his brothers John and Terry.He is survived by his siblings, Ann Marie, Cathy, Dennis, Kevin, Michael and Frank, 15 nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews.Arrangements entrusted to Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 W, Toms River, NJ 08755. The family will hold a private celebration of Tom’s life on Saturday, February 25th.
