He was born on July 30, 1938 to Rudolf Kurt Meier, Sr. and Frances Meier. Rudy was predeceased by his parents, his sister Kathryn, his son Christopher, and his grandchildren Brooke and Colin.
Rudy is survived by his wife of 64 years and 1 day Judith Meier (nee Sceurman), son Dr. R. Kurt Meier, III (Billie Ann), daughter Robyn Seifert (Kerry Kleckner), son William Meier (Angela), son Steven Meier (Carol) and son Scott Meier. He is also survived by his grandchildren Christopher (Chelsea), Kori (John), Meghan (Jonathan), Rudy IV (Krystin), Michelle (Andrew), Andrew (Hilary), Ryan (Emily), Brianna, Steven, Derrick, Zoe (Matthew), Kelly, Laura and Norah, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Rudy served in the US Navy from 1957-1961, primarily aboard the USS Cassin Young (DD 793) where he achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. Following his service to his country Rudy began working for NJ Bell Telephone as a cable splicing technician until he retired in December 1992. Rudy and Judy moved to Arizona in October 1993 and Rudy worked for Qwest from 1996-2000. He also worked for Green Valley Recreation from 2013-2019 before returning to NJ to be close to family.
Rudy coached baseball and football and umpired in Brick, NJ while his children were growing up, impacting many lives positively in the process.
Rudy enjoyed spending time with family and easily made fast, life-long friends. He always liked seeing people laugh and smile and was usually the cause of the laughter. He was a wonderful, kind, funny man and his family and friends continue to recount “Rudy” stories with fondness and laughter.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday February 11, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08755. A Celebration of Life will begin at 12:00 pm. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family by visiting www.quinn-hoppingfh.com.
