Rocco “Rocky” Cerro, 78, of Toms River, NJ & Vero Beach, FL passed away suddenly on June 5th, 2020. He was born in Summit, NJ, and grew up in Millburn. Once married, he raised his family in Florham Park. He owned his own house painting business until he retired in 1999 and moved to Toms River and was a snowbird in Vero Beach.
Rocky was an avid fisherman and the joy of his life was teaching his grandchildren how to fish. He spent summers on his boat in the Barnegat Bay and his winters on the Indian River. He loved to catch crabs, fish and clams so Annette could cook dinner for the family. After dinner, our whole family loved playing a competitive game of cards.
Evenings in Toms River you could find them at the Happy Hour bar. While in Florida, you could find him at the VFW or The Eagles singing karaoke or playing poker at The Moose.
In the summer, you could find him on his boat in Seaside Park. He always loved talking to people on the dock and anyone who crossed his path. His favorite hobby was having his fishing pole sales most weekends during the summer.
He is predeceased by his parents Anthony and Fannie Cerro, his brothers Danny and Teddy, and his nephew Danny. He is survived by his loving wife, Annette of 57 years, his two daughters, Lisa Monbleau and longtime boyfriend Robert Kraska, Denise Chichelo and husband Michael, cherished grandchildren, Tina and husband Donald, Gia, Raquel “Rocci” and fiancé Cole, Rocco and great-granddaughter, Sophia. Also surviving are his uncle Nick Cerro, niece Margaret Cerro and nephew Teddy (Cerro) Grosso, close cousins Grace Macaluso, John Rowan, Danny Megaro, and countless friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday July 22, 2020 from 4-8 pm with a Mass to be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe on Thursday July 23, 2020 at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Rocco's name be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital by visiting www.stjude.org.
