Bob Koudelka, 85, passed away on April 5, 2024. He was born to R. Joseph and Judy Koudelka on November 22, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, with a B.S. in Engineering and an M.A. in Metallurgical Engineering. Bob was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He began his 30 year career with Union Carbide in the Linde Division as a Development Engineer in Newark, NJ His professional advancement took him and his family to Hibbing, MN, Birmingham, AL, Chicago, IL, Houston, TX, Antwerp, Belgium, New York City, NY, Danbury, CT and Somerset, NJ.
After retiring at the age of 52, Bob returned to school to study American History at Florida State University where he obtained an M.A., pursued a Ph.D., and taught. He and his wife, Sonia, moved to the Villages in 2007. He enjoyed playing bridge, hearts, baseball, golf, pickleball, and traveling. He took classes in Colored Pencil Painting from Nan Klein and received many ribbons for his work. Bob helped establish the Colored Pencil Painting Guild in The Villages. He was a true Renaissance man.
Bob loved and was extremely proud of his family. He is survived by his wife, Sonia, with whom he spent 62 wonderful years; from Dallas, TX: son Robert J. (deceased), daughter-in-law Kama, grandsons Bobby (Megan), Danny (Ali), Teddy (fiancée P.J.), and Great-Grandson Bo; from Lynchburg, VA: son Stephen R., daughter-in-law Amy, and grandchildren Holly, Billy, and Mary. He is also survived by a brother, Alan Koudelka (Beth).
Bob will be interred in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Toms River, NJ, on Monday, April 15th at 12:45pm., and a Celebration of Life will be held at Dignity Memorial Life Celebration Center on Friday, May 31st at 1p.m. Donations may be made to Moffitt Cancer Center.
