Richard was born on April 30, 1946 to Harry and Elizabeth Thomas at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1964, he was drafted into the United States Air Force, serving from 1965 - 1969. Following his discharge, he spent his entire 35 year career working for Frequency Engineering Laboratories in Farmingdale, NJ.
In 1969, he met Peggy, and they wed in 1971, going on to have four daughters, Jennifer, Christine, Megan, and Susan. Richard was a Corvette enthusiast, owning over 30 different Corvettes in his lifetime, several of which he restored himself. His prized ride was a classic black 1962 hard-top Corvette that he restored, which he kept for over 40 years. He was avidly involved in the NCRS, the National Corvette Restorers Society.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Elizabeth, and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Peggy (Chambers) of Toms River, his daughters Jennifer Graham (Robert) of Toms River, Christine Boss (Ernest) of Punta Gorda, FL, Megan Thomas of Toms River, and Susan Williams (Ryan) of Bayville. He is also survived by his brother, Harry (Barbara) of Allen, TX, and his brother-in-law, William Chambers (Pattie) of Freehold, NJ. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Madeline, Jackson, and EJ, and two nephews, William and Kevin, as well as numerous cousins and loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 4 PM to 8 PM at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:45 AM at the funeral home. A Committal service will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
