Richard Sullivan, 81 of Toms River, passed away on Monday May 8, 2023. Born in Maspeth, NY, he moved to Toms River in 1973. Richard is a proud graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School where he was recruited to attend because of his exceptional mathematical skills. He honorably served in the United States Navy before starting his career in purchasing with Sterling Drugs. He then worked for nearly 35 years with Ciba Geigy starting out in their Ardsley, NY office and eventually transferring to Toms River. Richard was an avid golfer and member of the Toms River Country Club where he spent many years as the club's golf chair. In retirement, he was an active volunteer at Community Medical Center and continued to foster his love of collecting coins, stamps and miniature cars. He was a fixture at his daughters' field hockey games and remained an obsessive Yankees' fan throughout his life (despite being raised in a household of Brooklyn Dodger fans). Richard was extremely devoted to his family and will hopefully be remembered for his constant joking, love of the Fighting Irish, appreciation for 50's rock n' roll and obsession with good coffee.
Richard is predeceased by his brothers Walter and Donnie, his sister Agnes (Sibby), his precious son Richie and his beautiful daughter Tara. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Norma; his devoted daughter Denise Porter and her husband Richard (Chip) Amdur; and the most blessed part of his life, his four grandchildren Billy, Mia, Casey and Carson along with many caring relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River. A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow.
