Born in Brooklyn, he lived there until moving to Silver Ridge Park in 1998.
Mr. Ortiz was an egg handler for Adria Farms in Brooklyn for many years prior to his retirement in 1994.
While a resident of Silver Ridge Park, he was an active member of the community, and enjoyed attending meetings of the Men's Club and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; his children, Virginia Toscano and her husband Frank of Staten Island, Marijane Mandel and her husband Mark of Whiting, Richard Ortiz and his wife Evelyn of Monroe, and Vincent Ortiz and his wife Zoila of Manhattan; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Wesley, Dixie and Jackie.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2-4 on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River. Cremation was private.
