Marilyn Ofilan Tano, a beloved wife, mother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend left this world peacefully, yet unexpectedly, on February 10, 2021 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. She leaves behind husband Danny Tano, eldest son John and his wife Anne, daughter Kirsten and her fiancé Abby, youngest son Jason, mother Avelina Ravara, brother Jose Ofilan Jr. and his wife Arlene and kids, Andrei, Kaitlene, and Crisabelle.
Marilyn was born on January 27, 1963 in Bacnotan, La Union Philippines to Avelina Ravara and Jose Ofilan Sr. who took care of her during her early years. Shortly upon her parents’ separation, she was solely raised by her loving mother along with her brother Jose Ofilan Jr. She attended Bacnotan High School where she proceeded to St. Louis College then on to Philippines School of Business Administration to obtain her Bachelors degree in Accounting on 1984. She met her soulmate and the love of her life Danny, who she later married on January 2, 1986. Together, they had their first child Susan (March 29,1986) who unfortunately passed as soon as she was born. They then had their next two children, John (June 20, 1988) and Kirsten (October 20, 1991).
Danny and Marilyn migrated to the United States of America in 1992. She initially spent the first eight years working as a nanny in New Jersey and New York where she cared for the children and treated them just like her own. They then settled down in Toms River, NJ in 2000 where she gave birth to their fourth child, Jason (July 7, 2000). She worked as a Certified Nursing Aide in Green Acres then later transitioned as a Certified Medication Aide at The Haven at Silverwoods for eighteen years. In 2019, she attended the Pharmacy Technician Program in Ocean County Vocational Technical School where she passed her Pharmacy Technician Board Exam. She worked at Spring Oak as her last job before her sudden passing.
Marilyn was a kind hearted, generous, and selfless person who easily touched the lives of so many and stood as a role model. She dedicated her life to building and accomplishing her dreams. She was a very hard-working mother who worked countless hours 5-7 days a week just to support her family and our extended families in the Philippines who are in need. It seemed that nothing was ever impossible to her no matter what obstacles and challenges life may bring. During her free time, she loved to travel, shop, host parties, and enjoyed many hobbies like cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening. She’s always remembered as a person with a contagious smile.
In honor of her life, a memorial service will take place on February 14, 2021 at Anderson Funeral Home & Campbell Funeral Home: 703 Main St. Toms River, NJ 08753.
