Margaret I. Greenough, formerly of Toms River, died Thursday, October 8, in Lake Charles, LA. Born in Paterson, NJ, she lived in many places in New England until she and her family returned to New Jersey, first to Pines Lake, then on to Toms River.She married Jim, her teen-age sweetheart and celebrated 53 years with him until his death in 1998.Peggy took great joy in volunteering at Community Hospital and was honored for over 1000 hours of service. She also knitted hats for the newborns at the hospital.
Peggy is survived by her two sisters, Jeanne Wilkin and Charlotte Carkeek, as well as her sons Doug Greenough (Dee), Clifford Greenough (Beatriz), and her daughter Barbara Acker (Gary Teper). Grandchildren include LeeAnn, Jared (Jenn) and Evan Acker and Michael (Melanie) and David (Brandi) Greenough, Lydia Baker (John) and Dawn Beard (WC). Peggy also enjoyed her many grandchildren.
Peggy was predeceased by her sister Bette and brothers Frank, Joseph, and Bobby Wilkin.
Visitation will be held at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08755 on Tuesday, October 13 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Services will take place at the funeral home Wednesday at 9:15 AM followed by burial at the Brig.
