Linda M. Heffernan, age 62 of Toms River died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Van Dyke Hospice of Community Medical Center, Toms River, after a brave battle with ovarian cancer for four hard years. She was born May 17, 1949 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Victor and Emily Marascio. Linda was a teacher for 35 years and last taught at Pine Beach Elementary School where she was honored as Teacher of the year. She was also selected Who’s Who Among Teachers. She was a graduate of Monmouth University class of 1971, was an avid sailor, skier and runner. She was also a long time member of Pine Beach Yacht Club. Linda is survived by her husband Edward Heffernan of 40 years, a son Michael of Patuxent River, MD ; daughter Erin Hicks and husband Dennis of Lacey Twp; grandson Brodie Hicks; mother Emily Marascio of Little Silver, NJ ; her sisters Lisa and Sandy. She showed us all how to fight without fear, to live not as a victim, and that a strong heart and mind can defy even the most unfavorable of odds. In one word, tenacious.
