Kathryn “Kitty” DeMarco (née Iannone) died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on April 11, 2024. The youngest of eight children, Kitty was born in Orange, NJ, where she lived most of her life before moving to Toms River.
She was introduced to the love of her life, James “Jimmy” DeMarco, by her sister at the Kresge’s Christmas party, where the two hit it off over a game of pingpong. They shared the same loving and playful bond throughout their entire 62-year marriage until his passing in 2011.
Known by many as “Nana” and “Aunt Kit,” she will be deeply missed for her caring and fun-loving nature, sense of humor, honesty, and spunk. Before marrying and having children, she was a lab technician at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Montclair, NJ — and while she often spoke of how much she loved her job, her true passion and greatest joy was her family. She was also a skilled painter and loved playing poker or spending the day at a racehorse track.
She is predeceased by her husband, Jimmy; parents, Anna and James Iannone; and siblings, Alexander (Al), Angelo (Joe), Antoinette (Ann), Vincent, Amerigo (Packy), Matthew (Matty), and Pasquale (Buddy Yannon).
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kathryn DeMarco of Coatesville PA; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Gianotti-Avella and John Avella of Toms River, NJ; granddaughter, Jessa Kathryn Gianotti of New York, NY; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Adam and Melissa Gianotti, and great-grandchildren Penelope and Paolo, of New York, NY; and many loving extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, at 26 Mule Road in Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
