Joyce Bargmann Potter

Born in Newark, NJ, she was the youngest daughter of Rudolph and Lucille Bargmann. The family moved to Toms River in 1948. Joyce graduated from Toms River High School in 1950 along with many special classmates, who became lifelong friends. In 1952, Joyce married her beloved “Woody” at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Toms River, and together, they raised their three sons. Joyce spoke often of the wonderful, fortunate life the family enjoyed at their early Madison Avenue and Park Street homes and later, their Lakehurst Road home.

In the late ‘60s, Joyce found her career calling, excelling in the real estate industry. She began her career as a real estate saleswoman, before serving in management positions for local real estate companies including Crossroads Realty. Joyce, always a leader, was among the first women real estate brokers in Ocean County. She fulfilled a career goal of opening her own office, Potter & Taylor Real Estate in 1978.

Her hobbies, in retirement, included antique and treasure hunting at garage and estate sales, both near and far, cooking, gardening and reading novels. Joyce received most of her pleasure spending time with her family, especially the surprise visits from her grandchildren. She enjoyed a very unique and special bond with each of her eight grandchildren.

Joyce will be remembered by her family and friends for her caring, trusting generosity towards others. She lived her life by taking the time to show love, appreciation, and kindness to others around her. Joyce’s positive attitude about the goodness in life was captivating to everyone and will not be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, Joyce, would most certainly, request that you reach out to someone in need or make a donation to the charity of your choice.

Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Woody, in 1993, her parents, Rudolph and Lucille Bargmann, her sisters, Lucille Gould and Dorothy Bogda, and her daughter-in-law Donna.

She is survived by her three sons and her daughter-in-laws, Philip and Erin Potter, Toms River, Jeffrey and Patricia Potter, Toms River, Craig and Kim Potter, Manasquan and her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan, Scott, Marc, Kathryn, Jordan, Kristin, Philip, and Kyle. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be private, held at Riverside Cemetery, under the care of Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home. A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held for family and friends at the Toms River Country Club, Toms River on Saturday, February 6th from 12 to 3pm. All are warmly invited.
