Joseph Kurywczak, 86, of Toms River, NJ passed away on Monday September 13, 2021 at his home while surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ukraine, Joseph immigrated with his family to New York City from Germany in 1949 at the age of 14, he lived most of his life in Elizabeth, NJ before moving to Toms River 9 years ago. Joseph was a veteran of the US Army. He worked for Simmons Mattress Co. for over 35 years before retiring in 1998. Joseph was a jack of all trades and welcomed the challenge of fixing anything but especially loved working on car engines. He enjoyed bowling, reading the newspaper and comic strips, going for long drives, trips to Atlantic City, his daily morning coffee clutches with his wife and friends at Dunkin Donuts and McDonald’s and spending time with his family.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Anna Iwanec Kurywczak; his daughter Laura Taddeo and her husband Anthony, his eldest son Victor Kurywczak, his youngest son Michael Kurywczak and his wife Karen, and 8 beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Grace, Faith, Nicole, Christian, Stephen, Robert, and Maria.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday September 19, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Parastas will be at 5:00 pm. A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday September 20, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Stephen Ukrainian Catholic Church 1344 White Oak Bottom Rd. Toms River, NJ 08755.
