John S. Mangano, 88, of Holiday Heights, Berkeley Twp., passed away on Sunday, January 13th. Born in Manhattan on July 2, 1930, he resided in Old Bridge prior to moving to Holiday Heights 28 years ago. He worked in sales as a manager for Lily Tulip and Owens Illinois Glass. John attended Brooklyn College of NY and City College of NY (CCNY). He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Army as a corporal from 1951-1953. John was a member of the Sayreville VFW and the Old Bridge Elks and he also was a volunteer at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He enjoyed playing ping pong and tennis. John was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years Ruth Mangano and his beloved brothers Frank and Vincent Mangano and his dear sister Fannie Staropoli. He leaves behind his son Thomas and wife Toni of Sayreville, his daughter Maria Haberin and husband Martin of Pennington and his daughter Susan Russo and husband Mark of Branchburg. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren: Timothy, Jonathan, Caitlin, Michele, Meghan, Kelsey, Marissa and Marlena. John is also survived by his longtime companion Marilyn Fulton. Visitation will be Thursday from 3-7 pm at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 9:30 am Friday at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Berkeley Twp. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to Holiday Heights First Aid Squad or St. Maximilian Kolbe Church.
