Born in Philadelphia, PA he moved to Haddonfield and later to Toms River in 2002.
He was an Army Veteran of WWII and was stationed in the Philippines.
Prior to retiring in 1992, he was a Field Representative for Harleysville Insurance Company.
John was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post# 38 and the Men’s Club of Haddonfield. He was a member of the SRPE Golf Club. He also loved boating, fishing, golfing and also boxed in his early years.
He was predeceased by his brother Bernard Butler and his daughter Nancy Thompson.
Surviving is his wife of 30 years Ida Butler. 2 daughters: Virginia Leyendecker and her husband Kirk and Carolyn Conway and her husband Dan. 2 step-sons: Donald Bernhardt and David Bernhardt and his wife Lori. 9 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-8 PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River.
