Susan Buckley, 70, of Berkeley Township, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at her home in Holiday City after a courageous battle with ALS. Joan was born in Abington, Pa. She graduated from East Stroudsburg College. She lived in Glenside, Pa. before moving to Wall where she spent many years. In 1984, she moved to the Toms River area. Joan worked as an elementary school teacher for the Abington School District in Pa. She also was a teacher in the Howell Public Schools. Joan later worked in human resources before becoming an insurance enroller until her retirement.She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Edward Spering and her brother, James Spering. Surviving are her two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia Lavallee and husband Steven of Toms River, and Robin Steiner and husband Charles Jr., of Toms River. Beloved grandmother of Kristina and Brenden Lavallee, and Alexyn and Kaylee Steiner. She is also survived by her brother, Edward Spering and wife Debra; her sister-in-law, Jennifer Spering; her aunt, Anna Hoffman, and cousin Joann Stockholm. A special thanks to her home health aide Laura Miranda for her care and dedication.Visitation with the family will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
