James Rocco Venezia of Manchester, NJ passed on Friday June 7, 2024 at his home. Jim was born in Jersey City. He served in the US Army as a military policeman from 1963-1964 while stationed in La Rochelle, France. He graduated with an Associate’s Degree from Ocean County Community College. He was a Senior Claims Investigator for N.J. Transit retiring in 2002.
Jim had many interests. He was an avid reader, especially history. He loved nature and the State of Maine and upon retirement he fulfilled his dream of living in the town of Milbridge. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, and spending time at his favorite place, the Manasquan Inlet in Pt. Pleasant Beach. Jim did extensive research on ancestry.com and other resources and discovered he is a Mayflower descendant. He was a member of the NJ Transit Brass Club and the Cedar Glen West AmVets Post #1.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Carmine and Loretta (Boyd) Venezia and his brother Phillip.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years Laura (Almeida); his children Elizabeth Davies (Marty), Jennifer Hubert, Brian Carlton and Bobby Carlton; his step children Tracy Slavis (Matt) and Melissa Gagescu (Alex); his grandchildren Dylan and Casey Davies and Thomas Hubert; his step grandchildren Alexandra and Amelia Slavis and Emily Gagescu; his siblings Carmine Venezia (Sarah), Lauren Gill (Richard), Margaret Bier (Aaron), Dina Wojtkiewicz (James) and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday June 13, 2024 at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08755. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass which will be celebrated on Friday June 14, 2024 at 12:00 pm at St. John’s RC Church 619 Chestnut St. Lakehurst, NJ 08733. Inurnment with military honors will follow at 2:30 pm at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery 350 Provinceline Road Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
