James A. Slocum, 45, a lifetime resident of Toms River, passed away Monday, May 31, 2010, at Van Dyke Hospice at Community Medical Center, Toms River, peacefully surrounded by his loving family and fiancé. Jim was a dedicated employee of Toms River Township Public Works for 22 years. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed camping and visiting Williamsburg, Va.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert H. Sr. and Rose Marie Slocum. Surviving are his fiancé, Lorri Amtzis of Bayville; his siblings, Carol Ullery and her husband David of Toms River; Jeanne Johnson and her husband Skip of Toms River, Deborah Gast and her husband Larry of Titusville, Fla., Robert H. Slocum Jr. and his wife Roxane of Manahawkin, Lisa Slocum of Toms River, and Dennis Slocum and his wife Donna of Toms River; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 3 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 4 at the funeral home. Cremation is private.
