Dear Patti, Beth, Joann, and your family: 

I am so sorry for your loss. Your mother & grandmother and my aunt was a special person who brought laughter and happiness into every holiday and into normal days, too. She was a loving and fun aunt who always gave us lots of big hugs and she never failed to bring lots of candy at every visit. I remember at one holiday, I explained to some of my cousins from my mom's side of my family that "Aunt Helen" as they knew her was actually my aunt, but not theirs aunt. They were not happy to learn this, and this memory made me laugh this morning. 

I remember how happy she was each year when the kids would go Christmas caroling in her neighborhood after Christmas dinner while the adults hung back and had a nightcap. She was always so happy when we returned so the adults could hear about our adventure. She loved to hear the scoop about what her neighbors said when we sang, whether they gave us kids a dollar, or if they made any special song requests. We were usually nervous and I remember she said we should go anyway to spread the holiday spirit. 

I also remember when my parents (Jim and Norma) would have a night out a few times a year with my Aunt Helen and Uncle Bill. These nights started with happy hour followed by dinner out at one of their favorite restaurants. These four took time to be together and have a night to re-connect despite busy lives. 

My Aunt Helen had a special bond with my father, her younger brother, Jim, that was apparent in their visits when they lived close and regular phone calls when they lived further apart. Their strong sibling relationship and love for each other and their family was clear to all of their collective children and grandchildren.

Remember Mrs Ruane ( I never called her Helen) sitting around my mothers kitchen table laughing, telling stories and singing.  She is missed

            Only fun and good memories of Aunt Helen who was always looking to make everyone around her happy!   She made Christmas Eve and Christmas Day very special...always had apple cider or egg nog ready for the kids as soon as we came in door!    Then she would send Uncle Bill down to the basement to play bumper pool with us!   After a terrific dinner the singing would start....just great memories!
       She was a great lady and will be missed!

We are saddened to hear of Aunt Helen’s passing. We have wonderful memories of her and your dad. Every Christmas was spent at their house and we had so much fun celebrating in their basement. Your mom was the life of the party! I don’t think we ever saw her not laughing.
