Gloria Catherine Johansen passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 9:36 p.m., surrounded by her loving family. Throughout her life, she demonstrated unwavering strength, boundless love, and a deep commitment to her family.
Born on December 26, 1951, in Englewood, NJ, Gloria was the cherished daughter of Robert and Florence. She grew up with her three sisters, Ellen, Mary, and Nancy. A graduate of Fort Lee High School, she later moved to the Jersey Shore after marrying and starting her own family. Gloria found great joy in raising her two children, Christian and Erin, and spent countless hours driving them to practices and games, enjoying the beach, or sharing a fun evening with friends.
The legacy of Gloria's warmth, kindness, and nurturing spirit will live on in her children and grandchildren, who were her greatest joy. Gloria is survived by her son, Christian, and his wife, Shannon; her daughter, Erin; her two cherished grandchildren, Matthew and Meghan; and two beloved granddogs, Zeke and Gus. Gloria took immense pride in her children and grandchildren and could often be found on the sidelines of their games, cheering them on with unwavering enthusiasm. Also surviving are her three beloved sisters; Ellen, Mary and Nancy and their spouses, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins whom she loved spending time with on vacation or at the family’s yearly sweet potato picking party.
Gloria loved to spend time with friends whether it was a lunch out, taking in a show, traveling to new places, or at BINGO. She was deeply committed to helping others and gave generously of her time as a volunteer at the Lacey Food Bank and as a Ladies Shriner's volunteer for the Ocean County Club. Her dedication to service reflected her kind heart and desire to make a difference in the lives of others. But her divine pleasure was baking her mother’s recipes of cookies at Christmas time and sharing them with her friends and family.
Gloria’s devotion to her family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she touched throughout her life. In honor of Gloria’s memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Lacey Food Bank or Shriner's Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers.
