Freda Margaret Stone

Freda Margaret Stone, 90, or Peg, as she was known to family and friends, of Toms River, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Born in Northborough, UK, she married then-Second Lieutenant Arthur P. Stone and became an Air Force wife, raising her family in various postings including Maine, Massachusetts, Illinois, South Carolina, Germany and Oregon, before setting in Toms River, NJ, and then retiring to Pine Knoll Shores, NC. For the past six months, she resided in Lakewood, NJ.

Peg was an Area Manager at the Asbury Park Press in Neptune for over 20 years, retiring in 1985. She was a passionate gardener, enjoyed playing golf with her friends and, most of all, loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Peg was predeceased by a son, James J. Stone III in 2005 and is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Arthur P. Stone, Major, USAF (Ret). She is also survived by a daughter, Judith M. Stone and her husband Patrick V. Walsh of Lakewood and two sons, Richard W. Stone of Elkton, MD, and Michael P. Stone of Charlotte, NC. Her devoted grandchildren are Robbie, Ryan, Julia and Taylor.

A gathering of friends will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society
